Invading with Light

I was recently on the website of the evangelist Nicky Cruz, of "The Cross and the Switchblade" fame.  He has a banner that reads, "Imagine what would happen if, instead of cursing the darkness, we invaded it with light".  So few Christians today have understood their position in the Kingdom of God, and consequently, their mandate as believers.  We tend to feel outnumbered, overwhelmed, cornered and sometimes all alone.  This is exactly what the devil wants us to believe;  and it is the opposite of the truth!  Jesus declared, "You are the light of the world...".  What an amazing statement!  We are light.  We have the ability to illuminate, enlighten, bring direction, radiate warmth, cause things to grow, cause things to live, germinate, and most importantly, dispel darkness!  It's amazing when you think about all the things light can do.  Your words, your touch, your love, your life, empowered and enabled by the power of the Holy Spirit, can dispel the darkness in another's life.  Many people speculate the purpose of all the miraculous things Jesus did and I have no doubt there was prophetic purpose to everything He did, but I also believe He did what He did because of who He was.  He healed because He is the healer.  He taught because He is the great teacher.  What He did was an expression of who He is and what we do should be an expression of who we are.  Problem is, who are we?  We don't know!  We have been taught that our purpose is to make it to heaven.  We have been told the we are to escape the world, which is slated for destruction.  In some cases, we have even been told that the devil is taking over this world and we're just waiting for the train out of here.  All of this kind of thinking avoids one primary issue.  We are the light.  Light dispels darkness.  If we shine at all, darkness is going to be pushed back.  Nicky Cruz is on to something I think.  Imagine...  Imagine the effect your life can have on the darkness around you.  Stir up your faith.  Dream big.  Don't take 'no' for an answer.  Dispel some darkness!
